Yes, now you can BECOME A MISSIONARY!
A Missionary of a different kind, with THE (Earthday) GREEN MISSION!

What we do: while it is still possible, we teach people how to garden and grow their own food -- organically, of course, there is no other way, and we will teach you to teach them! This is what the GREEN MISSION does. And we are looking for New Missionaries ready to dedicate some time (or their lives) to just do that!

HOW WE DO IT: We have meetings usually on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 7:00, where we learn by doing.

Here is an overview of the last and next classes (all these classes are different, so you can attend them all without getting too bored...):

A search on Google for: “ savegaia moringa ” (without the “”) will yield links to more material. In a nutshell, Moringa is a revolution in the making!

Moringa leaves compared to common foods - Values per 100gm portion:
Nutrient Moringa Leaves Other Foods
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Vitamin A 6780 mcg Carrots: 1890 mcg
Vitamin C 220 mg Oranges: 30 mg
Calcium 440 mg Cow's milk: 120 mg
Potassium 259 mg Bananas: 88 mg
Protein 6.7 gm Cow's milk: 3.2 gm

And actually, when it comes to the Moringa, which is a native Philipino tree, Dr Green, who will teach you at the Compton class and event, gets extensively quoted by no less than the Philipino
Government, as you can see here (So be assured you will be in good hands!):
http://www.pcarrd.dost.gov.ph/message/viewtopic.php?id=2137

On May 31, we should have classes, or in Bel Air, or in Mission Hills or Alhambra, or at one of the new locations. To be announced!

===========================
JUNE: Announcing this year's EARTHDAY L.A. VENICE BEACH ECOFEST
coming on Venice Beach on June 27th, where we will of course have our own booth, for which we need volunteers!

LATEST NEWS

On May 13th, we had a class in Orange County, so that people there don't feel left out! ;) It was requested by the 'California Organic Gardening Club'. Here is the club's self-introduction: "We are a non profit group whose purpose is to promote organic methods of growing plants. We teach gardening methods that build the soil, use pest control substances that are environmentally safe, research plant varieties adapted to our area, and make new and unusual varieties of plants available to our members. We are located in Orange County in Garden Grove CA 92841. Our meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 PM at the "Women's Civic Club of Garden Grove" 9501 Chapman Ave Garden Grove, CA 92841 (at the North East corner of Chapman Ave and Gilbert St). We are open to the public and we always welcome guests and new members."

If you live in Orange County, we highly encourage you to join this club's activities and benefit from mentoring by more advanced gardeners.

From LA take the 405 freeway South, merge to the 22 East (Garden Grove freeway), exit at "Magnolia Ave", go North, turn right (East) on Chapman Ave, then left at Gilbert St, and immediate right onto the driveway of the Women's Civic Club of Garden Grove, 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 PM.

This class was quite unusual, as it wasn't at all a hands-on class, just talk by Dr Green in front of perhaps 50 people, members or guests of the 'California Organic Gardening Club', with just one or two handful of people normally attending our classes and events (quite a few of the club's members don't even have a computer!). Unfortunately, Betty our standard class recorder couldn't make it that day, and Dr Green forgot to bring his own camera, so the talk wasn't recorded at all, which is a great pity, because it was most interesting. A wide range of subjects was covered, and this talk could have been used to create a standard format for similar events.
The club's modus operandi itself is very well thought of, in very friendly and supportive settings, so it is a pity that it's not yet all over the place. We can only encourage you to contact them and start a local chapter in your own hometown!

Last Class before that was Saturday 5/9 from 1:30 to 8+ PM in Mission Hills. This was a standard real class, not the tentative unusual self-teaching format from Saturday 5/2. We didn't really have enough materials at hand and things were slow to start, but we managed to finish about 60 or 70 square feet of raised beds by about 8 PM. This is not too bad, considering that commercially, the price for the same would be in the range of $1,500-$2,000. The Mission Hills Project has excellent potential on lots of available land, motivated residents, a great support group, and will certainly be quite successful soon. It's only shortcoming is the lack of Resident Coordinator, but we will return there probably around the end of the month to get more accomplished.

In additions to the on-going ones, we had several new projects that started or will be starting shortly, Mission Hills, Pacific Palisades, Garden Grove, Compton, Palos Verde probably, Sylmar possibly, etc...

And don't miss this introduction to Robert Hart's P.L.E.A.S.E. methods:
